Easy Decor Bow: How to Make a Bow the Easy Way

If you have had difficulty making fancy bows, this is the easy decor bow tutorial for you. It is so, so easy to make, & looks just as beautiful as any other full, loopy bow. I got tired of trying to hold ribbon in one hand and having my hand just cramp up so bad. I’m sure you know what I mean. I thought why not make the individual loops, and then group them together in one full bow. It worked so well, so I’m so excited to share it with you. You can use it on wreaths, garlands, on Christmas trees, even on gifts!

To make an easy decor bow you need:

  • 2.5″ wired ribbon- I used two different ribbons, but you can use as many or as few as you’d like.
  • scissors
  • pipe cleaner, floral wire, or zip tie
  • ruler or measuring tape (optional)
Supplies for an easy decor bow: scissors, pipe cleaner, 4 pieces of 8" long gold 2.5" wired ribbon & 4 pieces of 8" black ribbon with gold skulls.

Cut Ribbon

First decide how big you want your bow, and how long you want the tails. The fuller you want it, the more pieces of ribbon you need to cut. I made mine with eight loops. Since I was using mine for my Halloween splatter screen pumpkin, I wanted it full, but didn’t need tails because of the faux flowers at the bottom. So I cut my ribbon in 14″ pieces. If you would like your bow with loops the size of mine with tails, cut each piece to about 20″ each.

Lay the ribbons on top of each other, fold them in half length-wise and cut each end in a half V. When you unfold them, they will have V tails. I didn’t really need to do this for mine since they won’t show, but I wanted to show you how to do it.

Create the Bow

Pinch a ribbon above the length that you want the tail. Then fold it in half, gathering the other side of the ribbon to the initial place you’re pinching. You’re just forming the loop.

Continue forming loops with each one of the pieces of ribbon. Since I had two different ribbons I alternated creating loops in each color. When you add a new loop to the bow, turn them this way and that to create an even bow. A good tip for keeping your hand from cramping up while you’re making a bow, hold the loops between the flat part of the thumb and forefinger, and not between the tip of your finger and thumb.

Keep adding the loops you’ve created until you have all of them in the bow. Once they’re all together, wrap your pipe cleaner around the section that you are holding in your hand.

Fluff the Bow

Finally, move the loops around until you have a full bow. Open any loops that have been flattened or are uneven. Basically, fluff the bow, ha! If you have tails, position them now. Once you place it on what you’re using it for, you can further fluff and position it.

The easy decor bow is now finished!

That’s it! I told you this is a super easy to do bow. Really anyone can do this, regardless of your skill level. I think even my husband can do it. I may get him to do one and take some pictures so y’all can see how easy it really, really is. Here is my decor bow!
