If you’re looking for a great DIY Mother’s Day gift, I have just the idea to share with you today- an adorable, personalized tote bag, perfect for your mom to tote around her items or extras for her grandbabies! I created several free designs that you can use for your mom or grandmother, no matter what you or your kiddos call her. Let’s get into it!

Mother’s Day DIY Gift Tote Bag Supplies:
- canvas tote bag
- scissors
- wax paper
- my free designs
- cardboard to place inside the bag to protect the other side during ironing
- iron-on vinyl
- iron
- cutting machine (not required!)
- or a paint pen

Remember that you don’t need a cutting machine to create your own personalized DIY gifts! You can use a paint pen and the carbon copy method to print out the design on regular paper and transfer it onto your blank tote bag or other Mother’s Day DIY gift item. You can use this tutorial where I used the carbon copy method to make a DIY Mother’s Day sign for my mom last year.
Mother’s Day Designs for T-shirts, Tote Bags, Mugs, & More
For personal use only. All of my free printables & cut files are copyrighted material. Feel free to download these free designs and print them or use on your Cricut projects for your own use at home. They are not for commercial use, not to be placed on items for sale. That helps me keep these printables, SVGs, and PNGs coming to you for free! Another note: you will not my logo overlay on your downloaded design. It is there to keep people from downloading the images straight from Google, or others from stealing them to use on their site. Thanks for understanding! Feel free to share this post for your friends and family to make their own projects with this design!
I created several designs that you can use on your own DIY Mother’s Day gift, including tote bags, t-shirts, and more using several of the most popular names for grandmothers. Head over to my Google Drive to download the item that you would like to use on your Mother’s Day tote bag or other gift.

Cut the Design
Download the design that you’d like to use on your Mother’s Day DIY tote bag or other item from the Google Drive, then upload it to your cutting machine software.
Remember to mirror the design before you cut it so that it is not backwards when it is cut on the iron-on vinyl (HTV). I used a very dark gray vinyl because I ran out of black, but it works well with the scarf that I tied on the handle of the tote bag.
Place the HTV on your cutting mat, shiny side down, and cut the design. This is what you will have when it is finished. I created a personalized design for my mom with a heart and the names of her grandchildren down the right side of it.

Cut the design from the rest of the HTV and then weed it.

Place the Design on the Tote Bag
Center the design on the tote bag and place wax paper on top of it.

Turn your iron on medium heat and press it down hard onto the HTV design evenly for 30-45 seconds.

Remove the wax paper and lift the plastic adhesive side of the HTV carefully to ensure that it has transferred onto your Mother’s Day gift tote bag.

This is my finished Mother’s Day “Mimi” design on my mom’s tote bag.

Finally, I tied a scarf around the handle of the tote to finish it up. My mom can tie it around the other side once she gets it, but so that you can see it and the design, I just placed it on the same side for now.

That’s it! My Mother’s Day tote bag gift is complete!

You can fill your bag with other gifts if you’d like or use it as a stand-alone gift. I will place my mom’s other gift inside so that she has two gifts instead of just using a throw-away gift bag.
