Hello, friends! I’m finally back! I took some time off for the holidays, and then I had some forced time off for some health issues. But now I’m ready to get rolling again, though I’m moving a little slower than normal. That’s why today’s project was great to ease me back into crafting and blogging, an easy chunky yarn heart wreath that’s perfect to don your door for Valentine’s Day!

It’s time for our monthly Creative Craft Hop, hosted by Sara of Birdz of a Feather. If you’re coming over from Jenna at The Painted Apron, wasn’t her wine cork heart adorable?! Stick around after the post when I’ll send you on to the next stop on our hop!

Chunky Yarn Heart Wreath Supplies:
- chunky yarn- I used Mainstays chunky yarn in red from Walmart.
- heart wire wreath form- Dollar Tree
- pipe cleaner
- ribbon for bow- I used a 2.5″ khaki linen ribbon from Walmart.
- hot glue gun & glue

Attach Chunky Yarn to Wreath Form
Tie the chunky yarn to the outer ring of the heart wreath form along the side (or wherever you’d like to start). If you’d like to see the full video tutorial for this Valentine’s chunky yarn heart wreath, you can check it out over on Facebook. Next Wednesday we will be sharing a thrift store upcycle tutorial, so make sure you’re following me on FB & IG so you don’t miss it!

Next, tie a slip knot in the yarn. Wrap the yarn around two fingers, then push the yarn through the hole made with your fingers and pull it through.

Begin Wrapping Yarn Around Heart Wreath
Now wrap the yarn across the front of the wreath form and around the back (pushing the yarn skein through the middle of the heart) creating one wrap around the form. Put your fingers through the slip knot hole and pull the yarn through it, which will create another slip knot.

Continue wrapping the chunky yarn around the heart wreath form, going in the same direction, around the front and up the back, and pulling the yarn through the slip knot. It’s like crocheting, but with your fingers. Plus- no former crochet skills needed!

This really is that easy! Keep wrapping and finger crocheting (chaining) around the outside. When you get to the bottom of the V, you will need to wrap more yarn around than you think you will need to before you get around the point. Once you do, simply fluff the chunky yarn to cover the wire of the heart wreath form if you see any of it.

The same goes for the point at the top of the heart.

Tie Off the End of the Chunky Yarn
Once you get back to where you started, pull the yarn through the slip knot one more time, making the loop a little bigger than normal. Then cut the yarn about 3″ long and tie it to the back of one of the yarn pieces. Cut off any excess yarn that you have sticking too far out.

This is how your heart wreath will look once you’ve covered it in chunky yarn.

Embellish the Heart Wreath with a Bow
I decided to add a bow, not to the heart portion of the wreath, but to a strip of ribbon extending from the top.
To do this, place the end of the ribbon through the yarn to wrap it around the outer wire of the wreath form. Add some hot glue to it, then wrap it around the wire and glue it to itself.

Cut the ribbon about 7″ from the wreath.

Next, make a cute little bow to glue to the top of the ribbon strip. If you don’t know how to make a loopy bow, you can see how I made this one in my full video tutorial for this chunky yarn heart wreath over on Facebook. Every Wednesday I join Terrie of Decorate and More with Tip and Tammy of Patina and Paint and two other online vloggers to bring you a new project video over on Facebook, so be sure to head over there and follow me as well as the other girls linked in the video! You can also see this easy wreath bow tutorial or this super easy loopy bow tutorial that’s great for those who can’t hold ribbon well.

Once your bow is complete, add some hot glue to the back of it and place it at the top of the strip of ribbon. Then fluff the bow if needed.

Finally, attach a loop of pipe cleaner to the back of the ribbon to hang your heart wreath. I made my loop a little wide so that I could fit it over my wreath hanger on the front door.

That’s it! Hang your beautiful chunky yarn heart wreath & admire your handiwork!
I really love this super easy Valentine’s wreath and how it turned out!

I’m so happy that you’re easing back into things my friend; you’ve been on my mind! That pop of red on your door looks fabulous Niki! I will check out your videol believe it or not, I’ve never made a bow lol.
Thank you! I can’t believe you’ve never made a bow! They’re easier than they seem to be at first.
Very pretty, Niki and I love how you used the bow as the hanger. Great idea!
Thank you, Ann!
This turned out so stinking cute Niki. I love how it pops against your door. Thanks for the tutorial, so easy to follow.
Thank you! I was thinking the same thing about the red on the light blue!
Dear Niki,
I caught you through the blog hop, joining as I checked out my buddy at THE PAINTED APRON. I can immediately bond with you as I am the daughter of a LEO. My father died in 2003, but his legacy looms large in our small town–an honest man, a war veteran (with WWII Purple Heart and Bronze Star), a civic leader and of course great husband and father. These men are my heroes, especially in today’s tense times. I love your heart craft– I shall try to replicate it. Love to your family–and wishes for a happy 2024. Shelia, AKA Georgia Gal
It’s great to have you here Shelia! You’re so right; those men are truly heroes! Thank you for your father & family’s service!
So cute Niki! I love how you “finger crocheted” around the edge! The big bow does a great job to conceal the wreath hanger, wonderful Valentine decor!
Jenna
Thank you, Jenna!
