Printique Canvas Review: Everything You Need to Know Before Ordering

I was lucky enough to be asked to review the canvas wall art prints from the company Printique. They are a wonderful company that offers photo prints, wall art, as well as photo books. In return for my review, I received the one of a kind 8×10 of my wedding day that you see below. I hope you learn everything you need to know from this post, then order your own!

I am not an affiliate for Printique and receive no commission if you do order. The opinions in this review are completely my own, and I only received the photo, no paid sponsorship.

Order Receiving & Packaging

When I placed my order the confirmation said that I was going to get my order in about 10 days. To my delight I got it about 3 days later! That was really great. Although that required me to immediately pack it away since we were moving, that probably won’t happen to you, so you’ll be glad that you can hang your photo 3 days after ordering!

The photo was very carefully packaged for maximum protection of your memories. It came in a solid box, wrapped in plastic, then styrofoam was cushioning the Printique canvas all the way around.

A special “nail” comes taped in a plastic bag on the back of the canvas. It goes with a special honeycomb hanger that’s at the top. It’s a great way to hang! You’ll see why in just a sec.

What I Love about Printique & the Canvas

I love the beautiful colors in this print! The pinks in my lipstick and my husband’s vest and tie really pop. The photos of the canvas do not do them justice. You should know that they’re not exactly like canvas that you would get at stores for painting on. For my crafters out there, you know that canvas is a type of fabric. This canvas has a bit of a shiny look, but I don’t mind it. You can see what I mean in the photos above, especially on the blue sections.

The 8×10 has wide sides, which I really like. It has a depth of 1.75.” This allows it to extend past the 1.5″ frame that I hung just below the canvas. You can see where the canvas is folded over and wrapped toward the back at the bottom, but that doesn’t bother me. I like the rustic look of it, but if this is something that will bother you, you can order a print that comes framed! They will frame it and ship it directly to you. No having to run around looking for frames you like, then drop the canvas off to be framed, then go back and pick it up once it comes in. It will come directly to you, ready to hang!

Canvas hung on a wall with a ruler showing the depth of it, 1.75".

Honeycomb Hanger

The Printique canvases come with a unique honeycomb hanger on the back. The device that goes into the wall is also unique. It goes in at a downward angle, and easily pushes into the wall. The hanger allows you to hang it in any of the holes available. It looks, well, just like a honeycomb. I accidentally pushed the hanger in just a few millimeters off. We all know the havoc that that can wreak! It will make your photo very obviously uneven, so you have to patch the hole, paint, measure again, and place a new nail. With this honeycomb feature, I didn’t have to do that at all!! I just lifted the print and hung the “nail” in the hole next to it. Perfectly straight!

Customer Service

I had an issue while ordering my canvas online. Since I was getting a free print for giving a review of the Printique canvas, I was given a code to enter at checkout to remove the price and another code for free shipping. The code for the canvas worked, but the free shipping code did not. I contacted the company to apprise them of the situation via email. They got back to me in about ten minutes! Wow, right?!

Though they weren’t able to give me a new code for free shipping (I’m not really sure why, maybe it wasn’t something the representative could generate), he verified my credentials, then let me know what he could do. He told me if I was able to enter my credit card information and place the order, he would refund me the shipping cost right away. The purchase went through, and he immediately refunded my money. I thought I would have to wait a few days, but no. He was prompt, kind, and did exactly what he said he would.

I’m actually glad that I had this experience. That allowed me to see exactly what the company would do in the event that something went wrong with one of my reader’s purchases. Now I know exactly how kind, efficient, and competent they are! I highly recommend trusting them with your precious memories.

Other Things to Know

A review of the Printique canvas wouldn’t be complete without me telling you what I didn’t like. They offer three options for the appearance of the sides of the canvas: photo continuance (wrapping the photo around the sides), sides mirroring the photo, and color block edges. Mirroring looked odd as my husband’s head was shown to be backwards on the top, his hand backwards on the side, etc. If the photo was a landscape, this would be a beautiful option. The photo continuing on the sides caused the image to be blown up larger, and it cut the water off at the top and brought it to the top side where it wouldn’t be seen upon hanging, my husband’s hand was brought around to the side, etc. Depending on your photo, this could also be a beautiful option, it just didn’t work with my photo.

Color Blocked Sides

The only option that seemed viable with the photo that I chose seemed to be color blocked edges. I chose blue, to match our master bedroom. The color does not begin right on the edges. The photo continues for about 1/4″ on the edges, then the color begins. It sounds like a small measurement, but it’s very, very noticeable. If I had known this, I would not have chosen that. The preview showed that the photo ended on the front and every inch of the sides were solid blue. I’m not sure if this was an error or if this is standard practice. I don’t recommend this option, unless you speak with the company and confirm that this can be fixed. If you’re okay with the photo continuing, the go ahead and order it!

Since I was moving, I didn’t have the chance take everything out of the box for about a month after I received it. I did open the top and saw the picture, but I didn’t take it out. It went into a box with other decor until we moved to our new house and I had time to decorate our bedroom and hang the wall art. I didn’t contact Printique since it had been so long. This could’ve been an error and something they would fix if I had contacted them. So if you’d really like color blocking, I recommend contacting them and verifying the look before ordering. Since they were so willing to help me with the issue I had, I really believe that had I contacted them, they would have fixed it or gave me a different print.

Weird Lumps on the Edges

Another thing I didn’t like at first was lifted triangles that you see on the top and bottom of the sides. You can see one of them in the photo below. It worked out okay because you can’t see it once it’s hung because the top is too high up to see. I also hung a wider picture frame below it as it’s on a gallery wall, and that hides the bottom triangles. I’m guessing it’s the wrapping of the sides of the overlapping canvas, like when you wrap a gift. It’s not a big deal at all, I just thought you should know.

And that’s my review of the Printique canvas!

I hope that this helps you with a decision on whether to purchase your own, be it a canvas, photo book, or just prints. I’m very happy with my wedding photo. It makes a great addition to our bedroom gallery wall!

Gallery wall with Printique canvas hung in the middle with a multi-opening frame below it, our wedding license envelope and my garter in a shadow box on the left of that, and a photo of my hubby and I in a white frame on the left.

Later today I will be posting a tutorial for how to easily hang items on your wall, whether to create a gallery or alone. This is something you don’t want to miss!
