DIY Early Fall Hanging Door Basket

Hello, hello, hello! Can you believe that it’s already time to start planning your early fall decor? I know, me neither, but it is. Today I’m going to share a beautiful piece that can don your door for early fall, and it’s so easy to make. You can DIY this early fall hanging door basket in only two steps, so it’s got to be one of the easiest wreaths you’ll ever encounter. Let’s get into the tutorial!

Prep the Flowers & Basket

This early fall hanging door basket is the easiest “wreath” that I have ever made! It only takes two steps and about 15 to 20 minutes to make. In addition, you can change out the flowers to fit each season which will save you money.

First, since we’ll be putting floral foam into the hanging basket, we need to cover the holes on the front of the basket. You can use fabric, felt, or whatever you have on hand that will correspond with the colors of your flowers. If you don’t have a tobacco basket style, you can skip this step.

Place your fabric over the back of the hanging door basket, smoothed out, and cut it to fit. You will only need enough to cover the shorter front section from side to side.

Place the fabric inside the front of the hanging door basket, then tape it in place. That will allow you to replace it with different colors in other seasons. I only added three small pieces of tape.

Next, cut your flowers apart with wire cutters. I pulled mine down as far as I could, splitting them even past where they all become one, before cutting so that each flower had as long a stem as possible. After cutting my flowers, I separated them in piles by likeness so I could easily grab and place them in my early fall hanging door basket.

Finally, place floral foam in the door basket. I used three square styrofoam blocks and two pieces of dry floral foam on the sides of those.

Add Early Fall Flowers to the Hanging Door Basket

Now it’s time to assemble your fall hanging door basket. I like to balance my floral arrangements by adding something to the middle then something to each side that is the same or similar.

Continue adding early fall flowers, stems, and greenery to the hanging door basket until it’s full and you’re happy with the look.

That’s it! You’re ready to hang your new “wreath!”

I love the way this turned out, especially because I got this hanging basket from Hobby Lobby for 80% off, only $7! I can change it for each season and holiday, so it was such a score! Here’s how my DIY early fall hanging door basket looks on my door.

    1. Very cute Niki! Love the colors for this time of year when summer’s not over but we’re starting to think Fall. Changing out my door decor is on my to do list this week!

      1. Thank you! It’s so hot down here in our area that even when it’s fall it still feels like summer. Like well into November lol! I love fall & can’t wait to start decorating. I’m already working on some decor to match this year’s color scheme!

    2. This project turned out great! I love the variety of florals you put into the basket that are nod to fall but not necessary all “orange and red and yellow”. It’s perfect. Thank you for sharing this post with the Home Imagined link party!

      1. Thank you Anna! I thought the colors were perfect for early fall. Especially down here on the Gulf Coast where it’s so hot right through Christmas lol!
