Spiderman Yarn Wreath

For Christmas I made a yarn wreath for my nieces. My youngest niece is Spiderman crazy! She wears Spiderman outfits just about every day. So what else could I make her besides a Spiderman yarn wreath?! You can make a themed wreath using items from Dollar Tree.

To make this Spiderman yarn wreath you need:

  • styrofoam wreath form
  • red and white yarn
  • small Spiderman figurine (They carry them at Dollar Tree.)
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun and glue
  • 1.5″ wired ribbon (I used a glittered blue ribbon.)

Wrap the wreath form.

When you wrap the yarn around the form, it can be difficult with a bigger yarn skein. If you are using one from Dollar Tree those are easy to wrap and bring through the middle of the form. If you are using one like Red Heart brands, it’s easier to wrap the yarn around something smaller, then use that to wrap and pass through the middle of the form. I use my Amazon Firestick remote, but you can use a piece of cardboard or something like that. The remote is 1.5″ across, and I use about 2″ of the end section. That’s about the size you’d need the cardboard to be.

Use your hot glue gun and glue the end of your red yarn on the back of the form. Wrap it around the form until you’ve covered a quarter of the wreath. Cut the yarn and glue that end to the back of the form.

Next use the white, wrapping another quarter of the wreath. Follow that by wrapping another quarter in red, then the final section white again. Once you get back to the starting point, cut your white yarn and hot glue it to the back of the wreath. You can get further details on wrapping the wreath form from this tutorial from my beach yarn wreath. The picture below is from that wreath. It is only one color, but the process is the same.

*Tip- After wrapping like a hundred of yarn wreaths, the easiest and fastest way to wrap one is by putting it vertically between your knees and passing it through the hole in the middle, then around and up. Once you get going, you can do it faster and faster.

Make a bow to add to your Spiderman yarn wreath.

You can choose to use a regular two loop bow or a four loop like on this Spiderman yarn wreath. If you are making it for a boy, you may want to use a solid ribbon, rather than the sparkly one I used. Having a wired ribbon will help your bow keep its shape over time.

To make a two loop bow, you will just tie it like you would your shoe or a ribbon in your hair. Hot glue the bow to the top, center of the wreath.

To make a four loop bow, start by tying a regular bow, leaving two tails about 2″ long. Create two more loops by pinching a small amount of the ribbon between your thumb and fore finger. Make a loop by bringing the ribbon around and then pinching off another piece of the ribbon. Make a second loop and bring it back to the middle “pinch.” Cut off the extra ribbon, and wrap a pipe cleaner around the middle to keep it together. Then glue it to the back of the two loop bow.

Draw an initial on canvas.

Dollar Tree now has mini canvases. I used one that was about 4″ wide. In order to place the canvas in your Spiderman’s hands, you will need to remove the cardboard backing so that you have just the canvas left. Paint it with either red or blue or leave it white.

Once the paint is dry, it’s time to add the initial. I used my Cricut and cut an A and place it on the canvas. You can do that if you have one, draw one, or use a stencil from Dollar Tree to paint one on.

Attach Spiderman and the initial.

First you need to glue Spiderman on the wreath. Put hot glue on both of his feet, then place him a little to the left of the bottom center. This will allow you to center the initial on the bottom of the wreath.

Once the figure is glued on, move his arms to his waist. Add hot glue into his hands and a bit on the back of the canvas. Press the canvas into the hands for a bit to allow the glue to dry and harden.

And that’s it!

You now have an adorable or very big boy-ish Spiderman yarn wreath! I love it, and so did she. You can do this for any superhero, My Little Pony, or whatever your little one is into. Hang it on their door or over their bed, it will go great in a Spiderman bedroom!

Thank you for stopping by today. This was the second to last day of the A to Z Challenge for bloggers. Today’s theme was the letter Y, so this was a tutorial for a yarn wreath. Stick around and check out my other tutorials for DIY summer decor that were a part of this challenge. Come back tomorrow for the final letter, Z.
