Designing Devotion Edition
I want to share with you my Easter tablescape. It’s my first one. Usually I just do a centerpiece, not the entire table. This is also our Designing Devotion post for the week. Since we are discussing an Easter tablescape I thought the best devotion for this week would be on the Last Supper. It is on that tablescape that Jesus introduced God’s new covenant with all people. Many of the items on my table were made and put together by me, and I shared the tutorials with you. As we go through the pictures, I will list the links to the DIYs here for you to get those and make your own.
The decor in the dining room this spring is made up of neutral tones; grays, whites, tan, cream, sage green, and a pop of color in the robin’s egg blue. I really like the way it turned out. I can leave the decor as it is until I’m ready to update it in summer decor in May.
Center of the Table
I got the lantern in the middle from Michael’s a few years ago. During the fall I got it at a 60% off sale for $14.99. I thought it would be the perfect centerpiece for this table. At Christmas I fill it with ornaments, so I decided to use plastic Easter eggs for spring. My husband found an adorable silver and gray bunny at the store and bought it because he knew I’d like it for the lantern. I put it on a terracotta pot to raise it up, then surrounded it by the eggs.
My husband went to Hobby Lobby to try to find reindeer moss for me and found this adorable tan bunny table runner. He bought it and brought it home as a surprise for me. I already had a burlap and lace table runner on the table, but I love this one way more.

On top of the bunny table runner I placed a garland of greenery that runs down the middle, on each side of the lantern. It came from Michael’s in a grab bag that came two for $5! Each bag had about eight to ten things in it. If you find the grab bags, snatch them up!
I added more chalk painted plastic Easter eggs in and on the greenery. There are also twine wrapped eggs in the mix. I will be giving you a tutorial for these adorable eggs soon. Dollar Tree has ceramic rabbits that are adorable. I bought two and chalk painted one beige and one gray. Then I placed one on each side of the lantern. Finally I put two chalk painted Easter egg vases one on each side of the lantern.
Place Settings for the Easter Tablescape
Instead of placemats for each setting, I used chargers. I bought six of them from Dollar Tree because I, at first, intended to have six settings. When my husband bought me the bunny table runner, I did away with the end places since they covered the design.
The silver chargers were a bit too bright to go with the existing spring decor, so I dry brushed them to match the top of the lantern. I used gray, white, and robin’s egg blue chalk paint, and small amount of black. Make sure to add small amounts of paint at a time until you’re happy with the result.
I centered white plates on the chargers, and only dry-brush painted the parts of the chargers that would be seen around the plates. You can get the white plates from Dollar Tree. I bought a few there, then I found a four piece set of dinner plates, salad plates, and bowls at Marshall’s on sale for $12. On top of the dinner plates I placed turquoise salad plates to bring out the turquoise eggs and parts of the runner.
To top off the place settings I put large, chalk painted plastic Easter eggs. I made them into vases for faux flowers from Michael’s. You can also find a variety at Dollar Tree to make it more budget-friendly. You can see how I made the vases with this tutorial. To top off this Easter tablescape, you could add name place cards propped up by the vases.

The Last Supper Devotional
Preparing the Feast
As we have set our tables for our Easter meal, so we must now set our hearts right with the Lord to take His Supper. Easter is the most important holiday/event of the year. It was on that day after Passover that Jesus shed His sinless blood to cover our sins. That allows us to then be able to come into the presence of God the Father.
Each year the Jewish people celebrated the day which God delivered them from the angel of death that swept through Egypt. That allowed the people to escape their bondage to the Egyptians. On that day, they slaughtered a lamb and had a feast called the Passover Feast. The lamb they sacrificed signified the covering of their sins, allowing them to one day enter heaven.
On that day, the day before Jesus would be crucified, He sent His two most trusted disciples, Peter and John, to find the place where they would eat their Passover Feast. Jesus gave them simple instructions. In Mark 14:13-15 ESV, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.”
God had already prepared a place for them to eat. It was kept from the disciples until it was time to eat so as to not let Judas betray Jesus too soon. God is amazing in the way He puts you at the right place at the right time, just like He did with the man carrying the jug of water. Carrying water wasn’t even a man’s job at that time! It was a task for women, and yet the man was there for the disciples to greet.
Blood of a New Covenant
As the group feasted together that Last Supper, Jesus again told them He’d soon be killed. As He blessed then broke the bread, gave it to them, and told them to eat, that the bread was His body. Then He gave them a cup of wine in Mark 14:24 ESV, “And he said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’” Through Him God was making a new covenant with any man who believed in the Lord Jesus as the Son of God.
That last part, is the best part of it all. That He will not drink wine again until we are all together. It will be at the wedding feast of Jesus the bridegroom to we, His church! He is counting down the days until He can bring us all to Him to live with Him forever! That is so exciting to me. All of our friends and family that have gone on before us along with all of the saints that we do not yet know, will be gathered together celebrating.
Many will take the Lord’s Supper on Easter morning. I didn’t grow up doing that just because it’s Easter, but I am not saying that is wrong at all! Whenever we partake of this precious communion we need to set our hearts right with Him completely. He knows our hearts and minds, and during that time I try to know His as well. The sacrifice He made for me can never be repaid, and yet He loved me enough to do it anyway. What a Mighty God we serve!!
